What You Get for $79: Silver Status Perks

For $79, base-level Free Spirit members can jump straight to Silver. That's a pretty low price point for a status upgrade, especially when you consider the benefits. Silver gets you the ability to host a Points Pool, which is great for families who want to combine miles from multiple trips. You also get free standard and exit row seat selection at booking, priority check-in (subject to availability), priority boarding, same-day standby, and a waiver on the overweight fee for your first checked bag up to 70 pounds. There's also a dedicated guest care support line and a space-available upgrade chance.

The overweight bag waiver is a nice perk if you tend to pack heavy—Spirit normally charges up to $50 for bags over 50 pounds. Just remember, you still have to pay the standard checked bag fee.
